Cohorts of 1913

Forty-one Magdalen men matriculated in 1913. By the end of 1914 twenty-seven of these were serving in the army and a further six enlisted in 1915. Of those enlisting twelve, 36%, were killed during the war (Table 4). Seven men were awarded the Military Cross and one the Victoria Cross. A brief summary of the Military and future careers of those who survived is given in Table 5. Of the four who did not serve in the British armed forces (Table 6) , two were unfit for service, one served with the Central Powers and one was interned in Germany throughout the war.
